Before this course, what did you anticipate?
Before this course I anticipated the worse. Seeing that I took this course last year and didn’t do so good I was skeptical about taking it again. Last year when I first got into English 100 I thought I was going to like it, one because I was good at writing, and two because I liked to read, especially from my peers. So I had high hopes, and many expectations from the class. I think I ran into my first problem when I found out that I didn’t really get the hang of my teachers "teaching skills" is how she referred to them. She stated the first day of class that she had been known to be a difficult teacher, a Hard Ass to say the least. She assured us that it was certainly a myth, and that she was one of the nicest teachers where to have in our college years. She quickly proved them right by locking the door as soon as 1 o'clock hit, accepting no late work, no absentee’s rather sick or family problems. And her "Charming" sarcasm was the tip of the iceberg that sunk my ship to success in English 100. So needless to say I was not a happy camper know that I had to take it over, and I defiantly was not looking forward to it. But I swallowed my pride and did what I had to do in the class I’m in to get to where I need to be. So I hoping for a solid B in this class.

HI Atlana,
ReplyDeleteI understand your frustration. We have all been in those shoes once in our lives. But I would like to know what you learned from this experience since you had to take 100 over again. I can sense that you are writing this out of frustration and that is great, because for many of us, we have to write through our frustration to get to something great. But let's move past the frustration to what you learned from the situation. Certainly, you can understand the teacher's policies that are instituted through the university. What is the importance of policies? Remember on the first day of class, I asked everyone to think of this course as a job. When you apply it to a job, and this teacher as the boss, can you understand her work ethic?
Onto the writing you did when we discussed Task 4 -- you tell me that you would like to write about Douglass' essay in which you learned how to read and write. You also would like to write about the obstacles that you faced. What obstacles would you like to discuss for Task 4?
